Match Report
Bedford Modern School Boys-U13A vs  St Albans School
On: Saturday, 14 Sep 2019
Venue: Away

The U13A team faced St Albans on Saturday 14th September on an extremely hot day which proved to be a detriment to both teams’ performance. We chose to receive the kick off and worked our way up the pitch, and after some great carries from the forwards BMS managed to dot down. We then kicked to them and with some great defending, they knocked on, and we were faced with our first scrum, which we dominated. After a few phases, we managed to get the ball out to Tom Pendle on the wing, who then put his foot down and we once again found ourselves on their 5 metre line. After some patience, Jack Leach found a gap and finished it off. With some more great teamwork, within a few minutes we scored again. Just before half time, we conceded, but left the pitch with our heads held high.

Going into the second half, we were definitely feeling the heat, but with the use of our wings, we again managed to score a team try which everyone was involved in. With a chip from our fly half, and a great chase from James Neilson, he offloaded to Jamie Smith. Jamie then popped it to Tom Pendle who turned on the gas and put it down across the line bringing the score to 25 – 15. In the last 10 minutes, BMS dug deep and managed another try. We held St Albans off until the last play, when they managed to grab one last try just before the final whistle. The scores ended BMS 30 – 20 St Albans, and everyone from BMS could honestly say that they gave 100%. Special mentions must go to Thomas Leahy and James Neilson for stepping up when they were needed.
