Bedford Modern School Boys-U12A vs  Loughborough Grammar School
On: Saturday, 12 Oct 2019
Venue: at Home

Captain - Callum Anderson

Vice Captain - James Dooley

Approaching the game, we were looking to continue our unbeaten run so far this season. However, a quick check on Loughborough’s recent performances meant that we would have to be at the top of our game for us to come away with another win.

Conditions were not in favour of passing rugby with wet and windy conditions meaning it was slippery underfoot and the ball was going to have to be well looked after.

The game had been underway for approx 10 minutes and we could already see it was going to be tough with us making basic errors. We also realised rucking alone would not win us turn overs as they flooded the breakdown with big, well drilled players. Then Bertie was able to open up the scoring with a well-worked solo try before Loughborough were able to even up the score. A period of strong possession from BMS allowed Charlie to again get us in front and we went into half time with a single score lead but knowing the game still had to be won.

Loughborough must have had a good half time as they came back into the game straight away. Two quick tries were scored during a period of dominance and there was a risk of BMS heads going down as we faced our first defeat of the season.

We were determined to not let this happen and a change of game plan saw us use kicking to try and pressure the opposition. It worked! Good kicking supported by a strong chase on two occasions set up Ronan and then Lorcan for good tries. For the final 5 minutes the cheering from the sidelines really helped us to see out the rest of the game and we were able to kick the ball dead once time was up to grab the win.

It wasn’t easy and was the toughest game we have had this season. Coming from behind really showed the spirit of the team and their determination to play and win for each other.

Final score BMS 20-15 Loughborough Grammar.
